POOL HEATER MAINTENANCE
Pool heater maintenance, spring start-up and fall shutdown
Ontario winters are hard on outdoor pool heaters. A proper start-up when the pool opens and a proper shutdown when it closes prevent most of the problems we see at the start of the season.
Open right. Close right.
Protect the heater all year.
WHAT WE SEE MOST
What seasonal pool heater service includes.
Exact steps follow the manufacturer's instructions for your heater.
Winter damage check
At start-up we look for freeze damage, leaks, cracked parts and corrosion before the heater is fired.
Debris and nests cleared
Leaves, insects and nests are removed from the burner area, vent and cabinet.
Burner and ignition checked
Burner condition, igniter and flame sensing are checked so the heater lights reliably.
Gas supply and connections
Gas supply to the heater and accessible connections are checked.
Flow and pressure switch
With the pump running, we confirm the heater sees proper flow and the pressure switch operates correctly.
Controls and safeties tested
Thermostat, sensors and high limits are checked before the heater is put into service.
Fall shutdown and draining
At closing, the gas is shut off and the heater is drained following the manufacturer's procedure, so water left inside can't freeze and crack it.

Gas safety: if you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building right away and call 911 from outside. Don't use switches, phones or flames inside. This page and the request form are not for emergencies.

GOOD TO KNOW
Why seasonal service matters.
Most start-of-season no-heat calls come from winter damage, debris in the burner area or flow problems at opening. Catching them during start-up is faster than waiting for the heater to fail on the first warm weekend. Balanced pool chemistry through the season protects the heat exchanger too.

QUESTIONS
Common questions.
Does a pool heater really need to be drained in the fall?
Outdoor heaters in Ontario should be shut down and drained following the manufacturer's procedure. Water left in the heat exchanger can freeze and crack it.
When should I book start-up?
Book it with your pool opening, so the heater is checked before you need it.
Can I do the start-up myself?
You can keep the area clear and the filter clean. Lighting, gas and safety checks should be done by a licensed gas technician.
Do you also repair the heater if you find a problem?
Yes. We explain the problem and the pricing, and repair it with your approval.
