GET READY BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS
Gas fireplace cleaning and maintenance
Get the fireplace ready before family gatherings and cold-weather use. This fixed-scope visit covers maintenance, cleaning, inspection and operational testing. Parts, repairs and diagnostic work outside the maintenance scope are separate.
Clean, inspect, test.
Before the fireplace is needed.
WHAT WE SEE MOST
What an annual service includes.
Exact steps depend on the model and the manufacturer's instructions for it.
Glass cleaned
The glass is removed, cleaned of the white film that builds up, and the gasket is checked before it goes back on.
Burner and pilot cleaned
Dust, lint and debris are cleared from the burner, pilot hood and air openings.
Logs and media placed correctly
Logs, embers and glass media are inspected and set back to the manufacturer's layout. Misplaced logs are a common cause of soot.
Pilot and thermopile tested
Thermocouple or thermopile output is measured so a weak part is found before it fails.
Ignition and controls checked
Valve, switch, remote receiver and electronic ignition operation are checked.
Venting inspected
Accessible vent connections and the outside termination are visually checked for blockage or damage.
Gas connections checked
Accessible gas connections at the appliance are checked for leaks.
Flame and operation verified
The fireplace is run and the flame pattern and operation are confirmed before we leave.
Gas safety: if you smell gas or a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave the building right away and call 911 from outside. Don't use switches, phones or flames inside. This page and the request form are not for emergencies.

QUESTIONS
Common questions.
Why does my fireplace glass turn white or cloudy?
It's a normal by-product of burning gas that builds up over time. It should be cleaned with the right cleaner, and the glass gasket checked when it's reinstalled.
Can I clean the fireplace myself?
You can wipe the outside and keep the area clear. The glass, burner and pilot should be serviced by a licensed gas technician, because the glass forms part of the sealed system.
My fireplace works fine. Does it still need service?
Yes. Maintenance catches weak pilot parts, soot build-up and venting problems early, before they cause a no-heat call.
What if you find something wrong during maintenance?
We explain what we found and the repair pricing. Nothing extra is done without your approval.
